5th Global Congress on Sickle Cell Disease (GSCDN)

The 5th Global Congress on Sickle Cell Disease, organized by the Global Sickle Cell Disease Network (GSCDN), was held from 3 to 6 June 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria, bringing together international stakeholders engaged in the fight against sickle cell disease, including clinicians, researchers, policymakers, patient associations, and institutional partners.
Held under the theme: Working together to reduce the burden of sickle cell disease: Leaving no one behind »,
this edition emphasized the need for global cooperation to reduce inequalities in access to diagnosis, care, and therapeutic innovations.

A Strategic Representation of the Caribbean
On this occasion, the CAREST network was represented by Professor Jennifer Knight-Madden, a leading figure in sickle cell disease research and care in the Caribbean region. She participated in Plenary Session 2 – Newborn Screening for Sickle Cell Disease.
