On the occasion of the World Sickle Cell Awareness Day, the European Institute of Cooperation and Development ( IECD) has put on-line a new documentary of 14 minutes entitled ” The sickle cell disease in Africa – a fight of every day against an invisible disease “.
At a time when the gene therapy gives in France a credible basis for greater hopes for a cure of Sickle-cell disease, the sick of African countries die before they get the chance to be diagnose. In Sub-Saharan countries, 3 children suffering from Sickle-cell disease out of 4 don’t reach the age of 5! However, an early diagnosis and an appropriate care can reduce these risks considerably the mortality risk. The IECD support the stakeholders in the fight against Sickle-cell disease in Africa since 2006 in RDC, in Madagascar, in Cameroon and in Congo. A This film aims to raise awareness about this disease in order to encourage early detection. This film aims to raise awareness about this disease in order to encourage early screening.
Turned in Kinshasa, it presents the disease and gives the floor to the sick and to the carers.
